Updated team structures for FALL 2023

Happy Spring!

We, the HSC Board with input from our coaches and parents, have discussed in depth the pros and cons of continuing to run our grade-based teams vs. shifting (back) to a birth-year-based system. Our ultimate goal is to ensure we have competitive soccer available for the kids that are looking for that, and that our teams are placed in the right divisions to provide strong competition at the right level. To that end, we have decided that starting with the Fall 2023 season we will resume birth-year based teams.

For most of our players, this will not change their coach or team. For some, however, who have a fall birthday or who are on the older side of the grade, they will "play up" with kids from the next grade. We believe this not only sets our teams up for more even competition within the NHSL, but gives our kids the opportunities to play with kids in other grades, which will benefit our small town as they get towards Middle and High School.

We will also be looking at team sizes, and partnering with HYSA to ensure that every kid has an opportunity to play soccer, whether they're interested in a competitive format (HSC), a more developmental or recreational format (HYSA), or in some cases both. If skill-building and recreational level play is a better fit for your child/family, HYSA offers more playing time of that nature, and we'd be happy to work with you and HYSA to ensure your child has a place to play.

With this shift, we are really hoping to get as many kids as we can to evals, so that all the coaches can meet and understand the skills of players who will now be on their teams.
